What is the Drawing Office?

The Drawing Office is based in the UCL Department of Geography, where is has provided Cartography services since 1950. Today, our small team of experts continues to play an integral role, supporting students and staff in all manner of mapping design challenges.

Mapping and Wayfinding

We provide UCL’s only cartographic service employing qualified cartographers with 30 years’ experience in the preparation of maps, we draw all types of maps and diagrams to your specification for use in publications and research. We use Adobe Illustrator and a wide range of data sources. We specialize in creating the official UCL Campus Map and are responsible for the production of the ‘Find Your Way’ leaflet and keeping the UCL Campus Map up to date.

Please note: If you are not a member of the Department of Geography, our hourly rate of £35 will be applied.

Services for Geography Staff and Students

Design

We can create a design for your diagram or infographic, that is print ready and web friendly, for use in publications or teaching, including programmes, booklets and event publicity, using InDesign.

Printing

In-house printing of short-run materials, such as Flyers, Booklets and one-off Conference Posters, printed on our large format plotter and our laser printer with pro finisher and booklet maker.

Posters

For Geography staff and students only, our posters are printed in-house and are suitable for taking to a conference or event, we can usually print within 48hrs, costing £23 for A1 or £30 for A0. Please contact us for a full price list and advice.

Identity

Helping you create a cohesive design for your project, such as Logos or Letterheads.

Scanning

We can generate high quality scanned images from your original artwork, large format sheets and 35mm slides into any format, all to publication standard.

Merchandise and External Suppliers

We can source third party suppliers to fulfil your promotional item needs, ranging from stationary to promotional products and other printed materials including business cards.

Events

Helping you stage an event and its associated publicity materials.

Photography

We can send one of our staff to photograph your event and help with any processing of images using Photoshop.

Help

We can offer assistance or guidance for your project, to help you make your design ideas a reality.

Please note: The Drawing Office is part of the UCL Department of Geography, specialising in the creation of maps. As such, priority is given to the Department in the first instance. External Departments can access the other services listed through UCL Media Services and Communications.
