Alexandra Albert recently completed an ESRC-funded CASE PhD in citizen social science at the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research (CMIST). Through a series of case studies, her work explored the practices and processes of citizen social science – namely how people can be mobilised to engage in conducting social research, and the challenges and opportunities of using the data generated to tackle social issues.

She was seconded to UK Research and Innovation’s Public Engagement team to help set up a citizen science programme in 2019. She spent 2018-2019 working on the EU H2020 funded Doing It Together Science (DITOS) project helping to deliver citizen science activities across Europe, and completed an internship with UNESCO's Inclusive Policy Lab in 2017. Prior to starting the PhD, Alex worked as a social researcher for the LSE Grantham Institute for Climate Change, Arts Council England and The Work Foundation.

In September 2019 she starts a post doctorate position on the MRC funded Act Early UK Preventative Research Partnership, examining citizen science and co-production in health, comparing approaches in Tower Hamlets and Bradford.

Her research interests include participatory inventive methods, public sociology, citizen science, cultural metrics, cultural policy and inclusive development.
