        • PhD in GIS for urban planning and transport (2010/09 - 2015/09), Department of Urban Planning and Design, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
        • MSc in GIS and cartography (2008/09 - 2010/06), State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing, Wuhan University, China.
        • BSc in Geography and urban-rural planning (2004/09 - 2008/06), School of Resource and Environmental Science, Wuhan University, China.

        Tian Lan is a post-doctoral research associate, working in the Geospatial Analytics and Computing group with the department of Geography. His research mainly revolves around the on-going "UK Regions Digital Research Facility" (UK RDRF) project, aiming to develop certain "Geo-temporal demographics toolkit" with open data from administrative, business, and social media sources.

        Prior to the current work in UCL, he has worked as senior research assistant with department of urban planning and design, the University of Hong Kong. His research was about spatial and temporal data handling, for instance GPS trajectory data from probe vehicles. During his doctoral study, he also had teaching experiences as teaching assistant of graduate level courses such as statistics and ArcGIS laboratory sessions.
