Migrant Entrepreneurship in the OECD

Professor John Salt was Rapporteur of a two day conference at the OECD in Paris on June 9-10. The meeting was concerned with Migrant Entrepreneurship in OECD Countries, its magnitude, determinants and contribution to employment.

There were five paper sessions on:

1) National experiences from selected countries,

2) Business creation by migrant women and people with a migrant background;

3) The contribution of migrant entrepreneurs in enhancing innovation and foreign trade;

4) The role of immigrant entrepreneurs in revitalizing declining areas and sectors;

5) Improving access to credit and promoting immigrants' business development and employment creation.

Presentations came from academic researchers, policy makers, employers' organisations and individual entrepreneurs from Canada, Portugal, Switzerland, the UK, USA, France, Turkey, and The Netherlands.
