Recognising Diana Liverman’s research on the social impacts of climate change

Double US Honour for UCL Geography Alumna

Congratulations to Professor Diana Liverman (UCL Geography 1973-76), the renowned expert on climate vulnerability, justice and sustainable development, who has achieved the distinction of election to two of America’s oldest and most prestigious honorary societies, the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Diana is Regents' Professor and Director, School of Geography and Development in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arizona. Her research focuses on how climate change affects society, especially the most vulnerable, and how we can adapt to climate change.

She is currently working on projects related to the interactions between climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations.

As she puts it:

"Can we reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the warming already underway, while improving lives and meeting goals for sustainable development?"
