Remembering Claire Dwyer

Special event at RGS-IBG Annual Conference

Remembering Claire Dwyer

A special event to remember Professor Claire Dwyer was held at the RGS-IBG Annual Conference on Thursday 29th August. It was hosted by the RGS-IBG and the Gender and Feminist Geographies Research Group, and chaired by Hester Parr, the Chair of Conference.

The meeting's purpose was to create a time and space where Claire’s friends and colleagues could share memories and celebrate her contributions to the discipline, especially feminist and gender geography and the geographies of religion and ethnicity.

In a packed Education Centre, speakers included James Kneale, Ruth Judge, Nina Laurie, Rosy Cox, David Gilbert and Nazneem Ahmed. There were several further contributions from the audience and the meeting concluded with thanks, and an appreciation of his family’s commitment to geography, from Claire’s husband, Paul Farmer.
