Head of UNEP Terrestrial Ecosystem Unit is Honorary Senior Research Associate in UCL Geography

Dr Musonda Mumba has been awarded the title in UCL Geography of Honorary Senior Research Associate, starting from the beginning of October 2019, for five years.

Dr Mumba heads the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Terrestrial Ecosystems Unit.

She undertook her PhD research in UCL Geography between 2001 and 2006, supervised by Julian Thompson and Anson Mackay, funded by the Ted Hollis Scholarship in Wetland Hydrology and Conservation. This was a UCL Geography fund established in memory of Dr Ted Hollis to support global south students undertaking PhD research on wetlands.

Following Musonda’s appointment the department will aim to build collaboration with UNEP on a broad range of forest and wetland initiatives
