UCL Research Images competition

Geographers again prominent

UCL Research Images competition

Every year the UCL Doctoral School runs a “Research Images as Art / Art Images as Research” competition for the best photographs with aesthetic appeal relating to their research submitted by UCL graduate students and academic staff. These are exhibited in the College cloisters before Christmas, and prizes are awarded for the best images.

This year, as in the past, Geography submissions featured prominently among the prize winners, winning 3 of the 6 runner-up prizes.

They were:

  • Sarah Kunz, for ‘Archive folders’, showing rows of hanging archive folders in The Municipal Archives in The Hague.
  • Jack Layton, for ‘Hanging at south bank’, taken during Jack’s fieldwork exploring the campaign to save the undercroft skate space at London’s Southbank Centre.
  • Daniela Lainez Del Pozo, for ‘No boundaries’. “When the Desert of Sechura and the Pacific Ocean meet, differences blur. They are part of the same.”
