Richard Taylor delivers two invited talks at AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco

Double Header at AGU Conference

Professor Richard Taylor was invited to deliver two presentations at this year's Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in San Francisco on 9-13 December.

In one session, Environmental, Hydrologic and Climate Processes in Africa and the Mediterranean, Richard presented evidence from new observations in East Africa showing the disproportionate dependence of groundwater recharge on statistically extreme rainfall events.

In a second session, Remote Sensing and Modelling of Groundwater Variability, he delivered evidence from the Bengal Basin of Bangladesh and Sub-Saharan Africa that reveals substantial discrepancies between ground-based and satellite observations of changes in groundwater storage. Such observations are crucial to assessing the sustainability of groundwater use in both regions.

Both presentations were based upon NERC and DFID-funded research conducted with collaborators in both regions including Dr. Mohammad Shamsdduha from UCL's Institute of Risk and Disaster Reduction.
