'Creative City Limits' workshop

First of an AHRC-sponsored network

'Creative City Limits' workshop

The first workshop of a new Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded research network on Creative City Limits was organised by Dr Andrew Harris and Louis Moreno, from the UCL Urban Laboratory, on 26 January.

The event was held at the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and included presentations and comments from Richard Simmons (CABE), Ann Markusen (University of Minnesota), Angela McRobbie (Goldsmiths), Peter Hall (UCL) and AbdouMaliq Simone (Goldsmiths).

The network offers a forum for academics, policy-makers and cultural practitioners to reassess the place of creativity in urban economic growth. In particular it aims to use the recent financial crisis, and the uneven urban prospects of recovery, to review and rethink the historical and theoretical relationship between culture, economy and urban development.
