Open Data Master Classes 2010 at RGS/IBG

Hanif Rahemtulla and Paul Longley initiate collaborative series

Open Data Master Classes 2010 at RGS/IBG

In November, the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) hosted one of a series of Open Data Master Classes held across the UK as a collaborative initiative between several universities/institutions, central government, through data.gov.uk, and the business sector (including ESRI UK, the Ordnance Survey, Talis and ITO World).

The series is led by Dr Hanif Rahemtula (UCL PhD and Honorary Research Fellow, now of the University of Nottingham), who chaired this meeting with Professor Paul Longley. It was attended by over 250 people seeking greater understanding of the opportunities offered by Open Data.

Hanif and Paul will be organising a Special Session and International Workshop on Open Data at the RGS-IBG and Open Source GIS Conferences in 2011, alongside a Special Feature on Open Geographic Information in the international open access Journal of Spatial Information Science.
