Urban Geography Research Group conference at UCL

Alternative urbanisms?

The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) Urban Geography Research Group (UGRG) held their annual conference at UCL on 11-12 November.

The theme of the presentations and discussion among over 70 participants was Alternative Urbanisms. They explored alternative ways of organising, practising and imagining cities in current conditions of global turbulence and uncertainty in economies, political frameworks and environmental conditions.

Keynote speakers included Michael Edwards (UCL Bartlett School of Planning), Colin McFarlane (Department of Geography, Durham University), Malcolm Miles (Centre for Critical Cultural Resarch, University of Plymouth) and Jane Wills (Department of Geography, Queen Mary, University of London).

The conference was organised by Dr Andrew Harris with the assistance of the UGRG Committee, including UCL PhD student Regan Koch.
