UCL geographers appointed to ESRC Peer Review College

Six staff join new appraisal system

UCL geographers appointed to ESRC Peer Review College

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has established a new Peer Review College for research grant applications beginning on 1st of July 2010. Six UCL Geography staff have been appointed until 2012, with an optional extension to 2014: They are:

  • Dr. Gail Davis
  • Professor Matthew Gandy
  • Dr. Andrew Harris
  • Dr. Russell Hitchings
  • Dr. Pablo Mateos
  • Professor Ann Varley

The ESRC relies on peer review for the assessment of proposals to all its schemes and programmes. The new College is part of a system intended to improve the response rate of reviewers and reduce processing times for proposals. The UCL members will provide reviews in their areas of Human Geography expertise. As well improving the ESRC's peer review processes, it is hoped that the experience gained through College membership will offer benefits to individuals, departments and Research Organisations involved.
