Beirut Workshop on faith community responses to Syrian displacement

Second Refugee Hosts Newsletter

In July, Dr Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh, Principal Investigator of the interdisciplinary AHRC-ESRC funded Refugee Hosts research project, ran a two-day workshop in Beirut, Lebanon, examining local faith community responses to displacement from Syria.

The workshop, funded by the UCL Knowledge Exchange Fund, brought together various participants working with refugees and local faith communities in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. A full workshop report will be available via the Refugee Hosts website.

The Refugee Hosts project has also released its second Newsletter, highlighting the project’s recent Faith and Displacement blog series.

The series presents distinctive insights, new research, creative writing and other artistic outputs which explore the role faith plays in shaping refugee experiences of and responses to displacement.

The full Newsletter, with more information about the Refugee Hosts project, can be accessed here:

More information is also available on the website’s 'Get Involved' page. The project is particularly interested in publishing research, creative writing, photo galleries and thought provoking items exploring key project themes such as hospitality, hosting, protraction, faith and community.
