Housing for young adults in London

Policy workshop on current challenges

Housing for young adults in London

On September 12th, Dr Rory Coulter and Dr Sait Bayrakdar (Sociology, Cambridge) organised an afternoon policy workshop on ‘Housing in young adulthood: Changing choices, constraints and challenges’.

The event, held at the central London premises of Places for People, was organised under the auspices of Rory’s ESRC Future Research Leaders project.

Twenty five specialists, including academic researchers, policy professionals and housing practitioners, came together to share and discuss the latest research evidence about young adults’ housing in Britain.

They explored how housing policies, and the practices of housing providers, could be redesigned to improve how the needs of current and future generations of young people might be met.

At the end of the afternoon, Sian Berry (London Assembly member and Camden Councillor) concluded the workshop with some reflections on housing issues, speaking about her role chairing the London Assembly’s Housing Committee.
