Best paper on Human Factors and Biometrics at International Conference on Information Security

The Uncertainty of Identity

A paper written by Dr Muhammad Adnan and Professor Paul Longley (UCL Geography) won the best paper award in the Human Factors and Biometrics section of the 7th International Conference on Information Security and Networks, held in Glasgow on 9-11 September.

Co-authored with colleagues at the University of Birmingham and City University, the paper, The Uncertainty of Identity Toolset: Analysing Digital Traces for User Profiling, presented the “Uncertainty of Identity Toolset”, a framework for the identification and profiling of users from their social media accounts and e-mail addresses.

Such profiling of individuals and assigning them to distinct groups or classes have various potential applications, including targeted services, onlinefraud detection, extensive social sorting, and cyber-security.
