John Salt co-chairs Migration Statistics Users Forum

The collection and uses of UK migration data

Professor John Salt co-chaired the Third Annual Conference of the Migration Statistics Users Forum at the Royal Statistics Society on September 16th.

The Conference brought together about 80 people, including both  providers of statistics on UK international migration (the Office of National Statistics, Home Office, Department of Work and Pensions) and data users, including representatives of local government and the media.

The meeting included papers on the production of migration statistics in the UK, the use by local government of migration data and media reporting of migration statistics.

Breakout sessions also focused on comparative international statistical sources and the uses of administrative data to monitor migration.

The presentations from the conference may be found at www.rss.org.uk/migration-statistics
