Katariina takes National Dissertation Prize

Second year of UCL Geography success

Katariina takes National Dissertation Prize

Katariina Makela has won this year’s Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) Historical Geography Research Group Dissertation Prize for her final year undergraduate dissertation entitled Modern urban women: a study of Signe Brander's photography in early 20th-century Helsinki.

In a field of 13 submissions, described by Dr Innes Keighren (Royal Holloway UL), the HGRG Prize Coordinator, as “incredibly strong’, Katariina's study was judged to be highly original, conceptually sophisticated, and empirically rich. She will receive £200-worth of books published by Ashgate Publishing, who sponsor the prize.

This is the second year in succession that a UCL nominee has been awarded this prize.
