‘A landmark achievement’

British Academy honours David Lowenthal

UCL Geography’s Emeritus Professor David Lowenthal is one of the three 2016 winners of the British Academy Medal, for his book, The Past Is a Foreign Country—Revisited, published by Cambridge University Press in 2015.

The Medals, formally celebrated at the Academy’s annual awards ceremony on 27 September, are awarded for ‘a landmark academic achievement which has transformed understanding in a humanities or social science discipline’.  David’s book explores ‘the manifold ways in which history engages, illuminates and deceives us in the here and now’.
