Lucia in Bear Grylls Adventure

Sampling Britain’s deepest lake

ITV’s Britain’s Biggest Adventure with Bear Grylls on 29 September featured UCL Geography ECRC PhD student Lucia Lencioni and former staff member, Dr Laurence Carvalho, sampling Britain’s deepest lake, Loch Morar, near Mallaig in the Scottish Highlands.

With expert advice from UCL Geography Technician Ian Patmore, sediment samples were taken from the deepest point of the lake at 310m.

Lucia will analyse the diatoms preserved in the sediment as part of her PhD study of nutrient loading and climate-related changes in Scottish Lochs.
