John Salt in BBC documentary

Should we fear the Brain Drain?

On Monday 30th September, Professor John Salt was interviewed on the BBC’s Radio 4 documentary, Fear of the Brain Drain

He discussed the nature of ‘brain exchanges’ between countries, using migration statistics from the International Passenger Survey. These demonstrate that, despite fears expressed by our elite universities that talented British youngsters are heading out of the country for their education because of high domestic fees and the quality of facilities abroad, the UK was a net gainer of highly skilled workers.

In general, John pointed out that the UK is a net loser of highly skilled workers with other rich countries but gains in exchanges with poorer countries.
