Can Big Data help prevent crime?

Kira Kempinska, a PhD student co-supervised by Professpr Paul Longley, was interviewed by one of Poland’s largest 24-hour news channels, TVN24, on 8 November.

She featured in a discussion about, ‘Whether Big data can help to prevent crime’.

During the interview Kira gave various insights into her role as a research student in the Crime, Policing and Citizenship project at UCL.

She explained how she and her colleagues work alongside London’s Metropolitan Police developing tools to help predict and prevent future crimes, using large crime datasets and mathematics to identify spatial patterns of crime occurrence.
