Commonwealth Academic Fellow visits the Department

Dr. Sulochana Shekhar has joined UCL Geography for the Autumn Term as a Commonwealth Academic Fellow.  She is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Geography, School of Earth Sciences, Central University of Karnataka, Gulbarga, India.

Dr Shekar’s research focuses on slums in India (Gulbarga city in Karnataka State). While at UCL she is working with Dr Paul Densham to develop a spatial decision support system to implement slum rehabilitation programmes.

Dr Shekar is an urban geographer concerned with urban problems in India.  She is keen to apply remote sensing and GIS technologies to understanding urban issues in India and to finding practical solutions to them.
