Helen Bennion in Nanjing celebration

Collaborative research on Chinese shallow lakes

Dr Helen Bennion attended the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIGLAS), in Nanjing on October 18, 2010. This is the only institute specialising in lake-catchment systems research in China. She had also been invited to give a presentation on "Getting to the bottom of shallow lakes" at a palaeoecology workshop at NIGLAS on 16th Oct. Helen spent a further week in China to discuss future collaboration between UCL and NIGLAS, particularly with Xuhui Dong who gained his PhD at UCL on 11th October and now returns to a research position at NIGLAS. She also visited some of the Yangtze floodplain lakes and nearby mountains.
