Sampling US life, from the Iwo Jima to Cheesecake

YouTube video of 3rd year UCL geographers in Florida

An impressionistic video, compiled by Abi Delves, of last term’s UCL Geography’s third year field course in Florida has now appeared on the UCL Geography YouTube channel.

The main theme of the course was the role of the ocean in the making of Jacksonville across a range of spheres, including politics, economics, environment, and culture.

Site visits were made to the American Beach Museum, the USS Iwo Jima, the JaxPort intermodal facility, the local Homeland Security office, and there was also a presentation from the Army Corps of Engineers.

There were also various extracurricular activities, of course, including a tour of downtown Jacksonville, led by local professor, Ray Oldakowski, a visit to a baseball game, a trip on an air boat, sampling the fare at the Cheesecake Factory, and wide exploration of the local (fried) cuisine.
