Wetlands and Climate Change via the App Store

“Wetland Tool for Climate Change”, an iOS app designed to help wetland managers in England and Wales assess the impacts of climate change, has just been released via Apple’s App Store.

The app builds on a project led by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology involving UCL Geography’s Dr Julian Thompson, British Geological Survey, Open University and the University of Exeter, with sponsorship from the Wetland Vision partnership and the Natural Environment Research Council.

For different wetland types, Wetland Tool provides regional summaries of the impacts of climate change on wetland features, including hydrology, plant communities, birds and historic environments.

Results are presented as probabilistic projections of the degree of impact, based on 10,000 hydrological model runs, using the UKCP09 climate change scenarios. The tool is also available via a web page interface
