Jason Dittmer on superheroes and fascism

At the recent Association of American Geographers Conference in Chicago, Dr Jason Dittmer was interviewed by Dallas Rogers, University of Western Sydney, for The Conversation.

The popularity and success of Batman, Ironman and the Avengers have contributed to a revival of the American superhero on the big screen.

Jason explains the continuing ­relevance of such nationalist superheroes in both popular and political culture, and the influence of fascism and geopolitical forces on the superhero narrative from the 1920s to today.
