Jason Dittmer receives Richard Morrill Public Outreach Award

Recognition for author of Popular Culture, Geopolitics, and Identity

Jason Dittmer receives Richard Morrill Public Outreach Award

Dr Jason Dittmer has been awarded the Richard Morrill Public Outreach Award from the Political Geography Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers. The award is given to "an individual who has used her or his political geographic expertise to affect change (in public thought or public policy) beyond the academy".

Jason received the award for his book Popular Culture, Geopolitics, and Identity (Rowman and Littlefield, 2010), which attempts to make the insights of popular geopolitics available to a non-specialist audience.

The award letter explains his selection in the following terms: "The board was particularly impressed with your very readable merger of social theory and critical geopolitics and the potential your book has to reach a wide audience of non-academics."
