GEES award for Toronto image

Adam wins student photographic prize

Adam Jones, a final year geographer at UCL, is one of the four winners of this year’s student photographic competition run by the Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (GEES). Almost 70 entries were received from 28 HEIs.

Adam’s picture is of Daniel Libeskind’s crystalline-style extension to the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, contrasting with the original 1914 building. It represents the embracing of spectacle by cultural institutions such as museums, which continue to influence the way by which we comprehend past and present worlds: an inspiring build that mirrors a forever-changing, dynamic planet.

The winning photos will be appearing on the GEES SC website and will also feature in poster form at the GEES 11 event to be held in Birmingham on 30th June- 1st July 2011.
