Climate Change & Groundwater

Richard Taylor has been invited to present the results of recent research on the impact of climate change on the quantity and quality of groundwater resources and sustainability of groundwater-fed water supplies in sub-Saharan Africa at the International Groundwater Conference on Groundwater Dynamics and Global Change being held at the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur (India) from March 18th to 22nd, 2008. Key contributions to this research have come from UCL PhD students Lucinda Mileham, Callist Tindimugaya and Michael Owor.

As a core member of the UNESCO GRAPHIC (Groundwater Resources Assessment under the Pressures of Humanity and Climate Change) Programme, Richard will also work with UNESCO-IHP at the conference to identify case studies from around Asia to participate in the global GRAPHIC initiative. Finally, Richard will raise awareness at the conference in Jaipur of the Groundwater & Climate in Africa conference that he is organising with the Ministry of Water and Environment (Uganda) and UNESCO-IHP to take place in Kampala (Uganda) from June 24th to 28th, 2008.
