Maslin, the ‘Sceptical environmentalist' and the Indian heat wave

Glimpses of the earth’s future?

Professor Mark Maslin is one of the commentators on a Guardian podcast on climate change, reacting to the recent comments of Bjorn Lomborg, speaking to a Guardian Keep It In The Ground campaign about the economics of climate change, emissions targets, fracking, and green energy.

The Danish author is best known for his 2001 book, The Skeptical Environmentalist, in which he claimed that overpopulation, declining energy resources, species loss and certain aspects of global warming are unsupported by the evidence. He claims not to be a climate change denier, arguing that, "man-made global warming is real - it just isn't the end of the world."

In a 31 May Observer item, also available as a Guardian podcast, Mark provided the climate graphic and is quoted on the current Indian heat wave. He emphasises the particular vulnerability of the poor to climate change, especially through its effects on food and water security.
