Plans for greater emphasis on research of societal interest

Rick Battarbee new Editor-in-Chief of Biology Letters

Professor Rick Battarbee has taken over from Professor Brian Charlesworth as the Editor-in-Chief of the Royal Society journal, Biology Letters, for the next four years.

The journal is well known for its coverage of developmental biology and evolutionary ecology. Rick’s plan is to extend its coverage by including all strands of biology and placing a greater emphasis on research of societal interest.

This includes such themes as climate change, pollution, biodiversity, water resources and food security, each central to the new Future Earth agenda. The journal will soon start commissioning review papers to pursue these issues.
