Staff changes at UCL Geography

Three new appointments

Staff changes at UCL Geography

Following the departure of Dr Gail Davies to a Chair at the University of Exeter, and of Dr JoAnn McGregor to a Chair at the University of Sussex, three new appointments have been made to UCL Geography from September 2013:

Chair in Human Geography: Professor Andrew Barry (University of Oxford)

Professor Barry’s research interests span political and economic geography, social and anthropological theory, and science and technology studies. His recent research interests have included the politics of corporate social responsibility and transparency in the oil industry, and the nature and problems of interdisciplinary research.

Reader in Human Geography: Dr Tariq Jazeel (University of Sheffield)

Dr Jazeel has worked on the spatial politics and constitution of identity and difference in the particular context of  Sri Lanka and south Asia. His work includes studies of the politics of Sri Lankan 'nature' and National Parks, its modern architecture and literary geographies, and various diasporic and 'multicultural' formations.

Lecturer in Palaeooceanography/palaeoclimatology: Dr David Thornalley (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute)

Dr Thornalley’s research is on the causes and mechanisms of climate change on decadal to millennial timescales, particularly to reconstruct past changes in the circulation of the North Atlantic during the Holocene and last glacial cycle.
