‘Cities and Architecture in an Era of Convergence’

Robin Kim’s public lecture at Seoul City Hall

‘Cities and Architecture in an Era of Convergence’

On 17th April, Dr Robin J H Kim, Post-doctoral Fellow in the Urban Laboratory, was invited by the Mayor of Seoul, Won-Soon Park, to discuss major urban issues with senior officials and also gave a public lecture at Seoul City Hall. Entitled “Cities and Architecture in an Era of Convergence’’, this introduced key concepts and approaches that need to be considered by planners and policy makers to improve cities and architecture in the 21st century. In particular, Robin emphasised the need to accommodate socio-spatial demands in designing cities and buildings, arguing that Korean urban planners and architects still lack the ability to combine socio-spatial conditions with design. Robin continues to be involved in advising on regeneration projects including the re-use of the derelict industrial buildings in Seoul, and setting up urban policies that enable the city to compete with other global cities.
