Pushpa Arabindoo speaks on urban citizenship

On 5th May Dr Pushpa Arabindoo was invited to speak at a Right to the City workshop organised by the Urban Rights Group of the Institute for Development Policy and Management at the University of Manchester. It was planned to coincide with the Fifth World Urban Forum of UN-HABITAT. She gave a paper entitled 'No right to the city: Urban poor in bourgeois Chennai', as a member of a panel on 'Right to the City in urban poverty discourse'.

On 13-15th May, Pushpa also attended a Tamil Studies Conference at the University of Toronto, Canada. Her paper, in a session on Mass Mediations and the New Tamil Public Sphere, was on 'Idhuvaa Chennai? Reading a city's public in a newspaper's publicity campaign'.
