Sustainability within Indian urban planning: Urban Citizens in ‘the middle’

Dr Charlotte Lemanski was invited to participate in a workshop on Mainstreaming sustainability within urban planning and development in India, held at the University of Liverpool Foresight Centre on 13 July. The Workshop, organised by Dr. John Sturzaker and Dr. Urmila Jha-Thakur, gathered together a number of specialists from different academic backgrounds and areas of expertise, but with a shared interest in the theme.

Charlotte presented her work exploring the urban governance practices of residents of Delhi's 'unauthorised colonies', as examples of urban citizens who straddle the porous boundaries between the informal and formal, the poor and wealthy, and the planned and unplanned.
