Jenny Robinson gives keynote address in Shenzhen

Global Cities and the World Economic Crisis

Professor Jenny Robinson gave a keynote talk, "The travels of urban theory: the case of urban neoliberalism" at a conference on Making Global Cities and the World Economic Crisis in Shenzhen, China, from 4-8 January. It was co-hosted by the Universities of Minnesota, National University of Singapore, Peking University Shenzhen, and Hong Kong University. The meeting was an excellent opportunity to forge intellectual links with colleagues interested in urban studies across the Asian region, with speakers attending from China, Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as India, Indonesia, US, UK and Australia. The photograph shows the central area of Shenzhen, a city of 14 million, all built in the last 30 years, initially a Special Economic Zone bordering on Hong Kong.
