Charlotte Lemanski presents comparative research at South African seminar

The voice of the poor in urban governance

Dr Charlotte Lemanski visited the University of Witwatersrand (South Africa) on 31 Jan – 2 Feb to participate in a French-funded project seminar on The voice of the poor in urban governance: participation, mobilisation and politics in South African cities. The seminar provided an opportunity to discuss current South African-based research and reflect on the international theoretical and conceptual developments emerging from this research.

Charlotte presented a comparative analysis of her Delhi (India) and Cape Town (South Africa) research, exploring the class/participation nexus through the idea of 'interstitial spaces of urban governance'.
