Creating Common futures: engaging the public in innovative technologies

This month, Dr Angela Last joined the department as an ESRC Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Human Geography. She will be working with Dr Gail Davies on a project entitled Creating Common Futures - Embedding experimental methods for public engagement with innovative technologies. The project builds on Angela’s Open University PhD research on 'invisible risk' which examined the impact of different imaginations of materiality on public participation in decision-making concerning new technologies and trialled an art-practice based method of public engagement.

Having come into Geography from an Art & Design background, Angela's research incorporates both theoretical and practical investigations into materialities and forms of active citizenship. Her postdoctoral work will include curating an exhibition on experimental methods in Geography. Some examples of her research can be found on her blog 'Mutable Matter'.
