Jon French invited to speak at Shanghai conference

Storm Surge Modelling and Forecasting

In mid-October, Professor Jon French was invited by the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics to speak in Shanghai at its Symposium on Storm Surge Modelling and Forecasting.

He presented results from his current work on ‘Combining machine learning with computational hydrodynamics for prediction of tidal surge inundation at major estuarine ports’.

The work stems from a NERC Environmental Risks to Infrastructure Innovation Programme project (NERC NE/N01295X/1), held jointly with colleagues from UCL Engineering and also involving Associated British Ports as an industry stakeholder.
