Employing EO data in crop growth models for China

In October, the UCL Geography Earth Observation (EO) Group welcomed visitors from Beijing as part of the Newton AgriTech supported project, Assimilating EO data into crop growth models to provide agricultural information for China.

The project is funded by the UK-China Research and Innovation Partnership Fund (Newton Fund), and aims to help the Chinese agricultural industry by employing the UK's expertise in remote sensing and modelling.

The visitors and EO group spent a week working together on various crop models and data assimilation methods to simulate winter wheat growth in northern China.

As a result of the fruitful outcomes of this visit, the collaboration will continue under the scope of the Newton Fund.
