Research Images competition win for Helene Burningham

Dr Helene Burningham won two prizes for her photograph of a recurved spit.

Research Images competition win for Helene Burningham

Helene Burningham won one of the Graduate School's 'Runner-Up' prizes (£150) and also the Media Services Prize (a bottle of champagne).

The winning image: A great example of a recurved spit (in Maghera dunes, west Donegal), formed by the longshore transport of sediment into deeper water. This small-scale version (less than a metre long) had formed in a dune pool, but the parallels with the larger coastal spits such as Spurn Head are clear.
