Creative writing in Geography

A book of creative writing, Encounters Room 108, has been published by Amita Murray, Leverhulme Artist in Residence in UCL Geography during 2015, and Dr Tariq Jazeel, with whom she worked on a project, ‘Text and Place”.

The book is a compilation of short pieces written by members of the writing group led by Amita during her time in the Department.

There are contributions from Nazneen Ahmed, Caroline Bressey, Claire Dwyer, Linda Fuller, Tariq Jazeel, Charlotte Jones, Ruth Cheung Judge, Regan Koch, Sarah Kunz, Laura Marshall, Tula Maxted, Amita Murray, Dara Rigal, Joe Thorogood and Will Wright.

The book is also illustrated by students of Abbey and Stanhope School, Deptford, Sixth Form.

A limited number of free copies are available from Tariq Jazeel, and more of the group’s writing can be found at the encounters blog spot.

The book will be on display at an exhibition on Artists in Residence and Geography collaborations at the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), in South Kensington, London, 30th August – 2nd September, 2016.

Tariq and Amita will also participate in a panel discussion on Art/Geography collaborations at the conference.
