Funeral of Bill Mead

Cheerful celebration of his life

Funeral of Bill Mead

A funeral service for Professor Bill Mead took place on 12th August at St Michael's and All Angels Church, in his home village of Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire.

The church was packed with many of Bill’s local friends, over thirty colleagues, friends and former students from UCL and other parts of the University of London, and representatives from the RGS-IBG and the Finnish Embassy.

In accordance with Bill’s wishes, the event was intended as a cheerful celebration of his life, and this continued at a reception in the nearby Buckland Hall.

The service included a tribute from Professor Hugh Clout, highlighting Bill’s scholarly qualities, humour and kindness. Bill Willett paid a personal tribute, reflecting Bill’s participation in local life over many years, and warm family memories were also read, coming from as far away as New Zealand.
