Maslin and Mackay in BBC Four trip

Around the World in 60 Minutes

On 28th August, Professor Mark Maslin featured as an expert commentator on the BBC Four documentary, Around the World in 60 Minutes, with Professor Anson Mackay adding detail on the causes and implications of the Aral Sea crisis.

The programme took an astronaut’s view during one orbit of the Earth by the final Atlantic shuttle, 200 miles above the planet. Marvelling “at the incredible forces of nature that bring hundred-mile wide storms and reshape continents”, it also showed how humans are draining seas and building cities in the desert, visiting the wettest place on Earth as well as the most volcanic.

Throughout the programme, Mark offered comments on the scale and range of the Earth’s environmental and development problems and the prospects for their solution.
