Colleagues gather for Berkhamsted lunch

Emeriti celebrate Professor Bill Mead’s 95th

A dozen younger emeritus colleagues gathered for lunch with Bill in the magnificently restored art-deco tea room of the Rex Cinema, Berkhamsted on August 5th. The occasion marked his 95th birthday. Bill challenged the company to identify a collection of memorabilia drawn from the past 60 years or more. They included a letter written by Sir Dudley Stamp, a poem by Bill on the installation in 1953 of the first Norwegian Christmas spruce in Trafalgar Square, and a short story contributed to an apparently long-deceased publication, Ghost Magazine.

Those in attendance, and very much alive, were Eric Brown, John Catt, Hugh Clout, Tony French, David Lowenthal, Richard Munton, Hugh Prince, John Salt, Claudio Vita Finzi, Andrew Warren and Peter Wood.
