The Art of Listening

Benny Nilsen and Sandra Jasper in one-week residency at Sint-Lukas in Brussels

The Art of Listening

For the third year, Benny Nilsen (UCL Leverhulme Artist in Residence), Sandra Jasper (UCL Geography) and Mike Harding from TOUCH hosted a one-week course on field recording and urban soundscapes for the MA in Transmedia at Sint-Lukas School of Arts in Brussels, Belgium.

During the week students from Belgium, Bulgaria, Colombia, Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia and Venezuela went out in the field to record Brussels’ train stations, markets, parks, churches and streets. Students discussed the soundscapes of Brussels and their home cities and transformed their recordings into radio pieces, sound installations and drawings.
