Dunes

Publication of Andrew Warren’s overview of latest developments in dune studies

Dunes

Professor Andrew Warren’s overview of the latest developments in the study of windblown dunes is published this month by Wiley-Blackwell in the RGS-IBG Book Series.

Dunes is credited by Professor Andrew Goudie (Oxford) as being “the first major review of dunes since Ralph Bagnold’s 1941 classic The Physics of Blown Sand”. It discusses the shapes, sizes, patterns, distributions and care of dunes on Earth and elsewhere in the solar system. The book also draws on the full range of skills now focused on dunes, including mathematical modelling, improved instrumentation for measuring sand movement, including in wind tunnels, the uses of remote sensing, thermoluminscent dating techniques, stratigraphy and pedology.
