UCL Geography Professor gives evidence at the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology

Rick Battarbee gave evidence at the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology in March 2008.  The committee is currently conducting an enquiry on the state of Systematics and Taxonomy in the UK.  They were particularly interested in the way in which the ECRC specialist expertise in diatom taxonomy has underpinned its environmental change research programme on acidification, eutrophication and climate change.  A major concern of the committee is the decline in the UK's taxonomic skills at a time when need, with respect to biodiversity and climate change issues, is growing.  For Rick's position paper submitted to the Committee click here.
