Mapping ethnicity in London using names

Pablo Mateos was interviewed on the BBC Radio Four's news and events programme "PM", directed by Eddie Mair. The interview, which was part of a special thread of programmes on immigration this week, presented the "Multicultural Atlas of London". This atlas shows the geographic distribution of 43 linguistic and ethnic groups in London at very small area level based on the origins of people's forenames and surnames and the electoral roll as a population register. It can be accessed within the London Profiler website, which combines various socioeconomic datasets at small areas overlayed on top of Google Maps.

The interview, illustrated with a slide-show of the most representative maps, can be read by clicking here
